In a club ballot, NETCo Dems members overwhelmingly voted to endorse "No Way on Prop A" and joined over 115 other community organizations in opposition to City of Austin Proposition A on the November 2 ballot.
Prop A is a dangerous and fiscally irresponsible ballot measure. It would force Austin to cut essential services to spend up to $119 million each year exclusively on the Austin Police Department with no accountability. The Department's budget is already at its funding level highest in history—over $10 million higher than last year.
Diverting these funds would necessarily reduce funding for other emergency services. The Austin Firefighters Association warns that Prop A "would have enormous negative impacts on public safety as a whole, including fire and EMS."
Prop A would further put at risk the City's climate protection, clean energy, water conservation and watershed protection programs as well as funding for our parks and libraries.
